Private House
County Down

This contemporary glazed pavilion was added to an existing single storey property in order to provide modern living accommodation and a strong architectural statement.

The site is elevation and overlooks a lake, and the design concept was that of an elevated pavilion with a lightweight steel frame. At early stages, the decision was taken by the client to take advantage of the site levels by adding a basement play area. The design had to overcome many technical challenges in particular the setting out of all elements on a 600 x 600 tile grid, and also the engineering of a structure with effectively no lateral bracing, meaning that movement of the glazing had to be factored in. The result is a highly technical, highly architectural and contemporary living space.
