A spacious and bright shopping environment was created in conjunction with close liaison with the client throughout the design process.

The retail operation had outgrown the previous premises and when this Brownfield site became available the decision was taken to develop a larger store of 35,000 ft2 with associated car parking.

Storage is adjacent to the shop floor while offices and staff facilities are at first floor level. Further fit out projects have occurred to add Post Office and Off-Licence facilities within the store.

Traditional materials were employed in a contemporary manner to reflect its location within a rural context to create an inviting and expressive exterior that has a unique identity that is not typical of the normal appearance of a supermarket building.

Following the on going success of this local based retailer and to cope with a rising customer profile and demographic Hunters returned to HPA to design a large extension. Working with a neighbouring property owner, who was also a client of HPA, the practice produced a collaborative scheme which maximised the size of the building extension for Hunters, whilst retaining the development potential of the adjacent land. Having received planning consent in September 2012  works commenced on site the following April. The supermarket remained open during the works, which where subsequently completed in Nov 2013.
